We checked the skin shards on more than 120,000 level 30+ League of Legends accounts to see which skins really are rare. The biggest surprise: price makes almost no difference.
A 1,820 RP skin is as common as a 520 RP skin
A Legendary shard turned up about as often as the cheapest skins in the game. Any given skin appeared on about 16 accounts in every 10,000, at every price from 520 RP to 1,820 RP.
| Skin price | Accounts with a given skin shard, per 10,000 |
|---|---|
| 520 RP | About 16 |
| 750 RP | About 16 |
| 975 RP | About 16 |
| 1,350 RP (Epic) | About 16 |
| 1,820 RP (Legendary) | About 16 |
| 3,250 RP (Ultimate) | Under 1 |
1 in 8 accounts has a Legendary skin shard
Because each skin is about equally likely, expensive shards aren’t unusual. About 1 in 8 accounts had a Legendary shard, and about 3 in 4 had a shard for a skin worth 1,350 RP or more.
Ultimate skins are about 35 times rarer
Ultimate skins are the exception. They appeared about 35 times less often than Legendary skins, and only a handful of accounts had one.
130 skins never appeared
Of the skins released before 2023, 130 never showed up on a single account. They include Black Alistar, PAX Twisted Fate, Silver Kayle, King Rammus, PAX Jax, Goth Annie, Rusty Blitzcrank, Young Ryze and Victorious Jarvan IV.
Five regular skins never appeared either, which is harder to explain: Golden Alistar, Assassin Master Yi, White Mage Veigar, Phantom Karthus and K/DA ALL OUT Seraphine Indie.
Two in three accounts have Waterloo Miss Fortune
One skin beats the rest by a huge margin. About two in three accounts had Waterloo Miss Fortune, because it’s a new-account reward. We left it out of the other results.
How we measured it
We counted the skin shards on level 30+ accounts at PlayPlex, then compared skins by price. To keep newer skins fair, each rate only counts accounts created after that skin came out. Skin prices and release dates come from public community data.
These results describe the accounts we checked, not every League of Legends player. Most skins sit so close together that small gaps between two skins are down to chance, so we’ve only compared price groups and the rarest skins.
